Friday, March 13 Morning Mingle is Cancelled

NATURALLY CHICAGO REGRETS THAT WE HAVE CANCELLED THE MARCH 13 FRIDAY MORNING MINGLE OUT OF AN ABUNDANCE OF CAUTION DURING THE CORONAVIRUS CRISIS. We thank scheduled speaker Daphne Mazarakis of Grow Forward and Local Coho and will get her rescheduled for a Mingle this summer.

Below is biographical information about Daphne and the topic she planned to discuss at the Mingle:

Daphne Mazarakis is a Strategic Advisor to Grow Forward and Board member of its Local Coho affiliate. Daphne’s wide range of experiences give her an extraordinarily broad view of the Good Food industry.

In her Mingle presentation, she will discuss the differences in perspective from her career start working in Big Food for Kraft, to her own experiences as a start-up entrepreneur, and now as an advisor to Grow Forward and Board member for its affiliate Local Coho, a developing business that aims to serve communities with local, indoor-grown salmon.

Grow Forward’s mission statement says, “Our mission is to fund, mentor and grow sustainable enterprises that are just as good for business as they are for the communities in which the work.” Grow Forward’s other brands include MightyVine tomatoes, Local Foods distributor and grocers, and HandCut Foods, which provides high-quality meals to children at client schools.

Previously, Daphne was CEO of FairAcre Traders LLC, a start-up working with farms to market and distribute local, farm-identified produce to large-scale buyers. Daphne led the launch of FairAcre Traders in 2014 and sold its operations in 2017. 

Like many veterans of the industry, Daphne’s experience began in Big Food. She started with Kraft Foods in 1999 and spent eight years in brand management there, leading several of their largest businesses, including Kraft American Cheese and Kraft Salad Dressings. She then founded Tula Foods, Inc., a company dedicated to bringing healthier foods to the marketplace, and in 2009, her company was awarded as the most innovative new company by the Illinois Department of Commerce.

Daphne is a passionate supporter for entrepreneurs and for the career advancement of women and girls. Daphne has co-authored and taught a mindfulness-based leadership curriculum to entrepreneurs.

Morning Mingles are always held at LYFE Kitchen, 413 North Clark (at Hubbard Street), from 8:30-10 a.m. Admission, networking and coffee are free.
