It has often been said that a crisis brings out the best in good people. The Good Food and Natural Products industry has always been about health and wellness, and about community and helping. So it is no surprise that many businesses in our sector are showing their generosity during the COVID-19 crisis, even as they face their own challenges in this very uncertain time.

One of these is TeaSquares, makers of tea-infused energy snacks (and a 2017 graduate of the Good Food Accelerator’s 3rd entrepreneur cohort). Based in the Englewood neighborhood on Chicago’s South Side, TeaSquares has pursued a social mission from the get-go, providing business fellowships to young people in the city’s under-resourced communities.

So it is no surprise that Tea Squares took the initiative to partner with nine other brands to create and sell variety snack boxes, with 100 percent of the profits going to the Northwest Community Hospital Employee Emergency Relief Fund. Jordan Buckner — TeaSquares co-founder and CEO, and a Naturally Chicago Board member — explains the program that is helping hospital heroes. Right now, our health care workers are on the front lines, fighting to save lives of patients with COVID-19 while trying to take care of their families at home. We are all in this together, which is why TeaSquares is partnering with nine other brands to create the Stay Home Stay Healthy Snack Box to help support these workers through this difficult time.

At TeaSquares, we believe that good business should be good to the community. That’s why we’re excited to donate 100 percent of profits from the snack boxes to Northwest Community Hospital’s Employee Emergency Relief Fund. These funds are being distributed to employees who are confronting increasing challenges as a result of COVID-19.

All the snacks are made by small, independent food makers who are on a mission to make Good Food for the world. Chicago-based companies participating include TeaSquares, Nemi Holisticks, PREVAIL Jerky, Get Wild Snacks, Nature’s Nosh, Tomer Kosher Jerky, and Rumi Spice. We are also joined by Brass Roots, Sweet Amsterdam, and Al Chipino, companies based outside the Chicago area.

And as a Good Food Accelerator (GFA) alum, we are pleased to report that three of those companies — Prevail Jerky, Get Wild Snacks, and Nature’s Nosh — are members of GFA’s current (6th) cohort.

Everyone participating in the Stay Home Stay Healthy snack box shares the belief that we are all in this together. “Having the opportunity to help, in a very small way, the health care workers who are putting their lives on the line for the rest of us just seemed obvious, and it’s an honor,” said Regina Trillo of Nemi Holisticks.
