Board and Sponsor Event Kicked Off the Holiday Season in Style

All work and no play is not the Naturally Chicago way.

That’s why we welcomed the holiday season on Dec. 1 with a party for colleagues, Board members and sponsors at the new Dom’s Kitchen and Market in the Old Town neighborhood.

Dom’s recently opened this second store after making a huge splash with its first location, located on the border of Lincoln Park and Lakeview. These beautiful outlets, which combine food shopping, dining and grab-and-go options under one roof, are the creations of Chicago retail grocery royalty.

Dom’s co-founders (from left) Don Fitzgerald, Bob Mariano and Jay Owen flanked Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot as they cut into a giant Eli’s Cheesecake at the Grand Opening of the new Dom’s Kitchen and Market store on November 1. Photo by Bob Benenson.

Dom’s Chairman Jay Owen — a member of the Naturally Chicago Board of Directors — is a grandson of Dominick DiMatteo, who built the late, lamented Dominick’s supermarkets into a regional power. The other co-founders (also co-CEOs) are Bob Mariano, a retail grocery legend, and Don Fitzgerald, who worked with Mariano at the Dominick’s, Roundy’s and Mariano’s chains.

Dom’s served up a superb food table that included amazing Roman-style pizza from Bonci, located in the store’s food court; crudites with a variety of house-made dips and dressings; and a unique appetizer cup containing charcuterie, cheeses, crackers and other goodies.

Beverages included wine from the locally based Mmmm… Just Enjoy brand and whiskey sour cocktails with Twisted Alchemy mixers and Debonair bourbon by the 28 Mile Distilling Company in suburban Highwood.

The space was filled with laughter and lively conversation, and as at all Naturally Chicago’s live events, we’re sure that new friendships and business connections were made.

We deeply thank Dom’s, Twisted Alchemy, 28 Mile, and Mmmm… Just Enjoy for sponsoring this great event… all of the attendees… and those who joined us for the after-party meal at Orso’s Italian Restaurant a couple of blocks north.
